FAQ – Acoustic, Thermal, and Blackout Curtains

FAQ – Acoustic, Thermal, and Blackout Curtains

Can an acoustic curtain really block out noise?

No. An acoustic curtain can reduce some noise, but it does not completely eliminate it. Its effectiveness depends on the type of noise, the window, the curtain material, the installation, and the air gaps around the opening.

What is the difference between a soundproof curtain and an acoustic curtain?

In everyday language, both terms are often used to refer to a curtain that helps reduce noise. What matters most is not the name, but the curtain’s composition, weight, dimensions, and installation.

Does a thermal curtain protect against both cold and heat?

Yes, it can help reduce the feeling of cold in the winter and heat gain in the summer. The result depends on the building’s orientation, the size of the window, and how the curtain covers the opening.

Does a blackout curtain block out all the light?

The fabric may be 100% blackout, but light can still seep in from the sides, top, or bottom if the curtain doesn't cover the window wide enough. Overhang and installation are therefore essential.

Should you choose a curtain rod or a curtain track?

For heavy, wide curtains or those used every day, a track is often more convenient. It allows for smoother movement and can be installed closer to the ceiling or wall.

What width should I order?

The curtain should extend beyond the window. Whether for soundproofing, thermal insulation, or light blocking, generally add at least 15 to 20 cm on each side. If using grommets, also allow enough width to create pleats.

What height should I choose?

The height depends on where the curtain is installed: on the ceiling, a track, a rod, or the wall. The more of the area the curtain covers, the more it blocks light, air, and noise.

What should I do if I'm not sure about my measurements?
